Abstract
This special issue is about past, present and future research required to better manage emergency services workers who undertake emotional labor regularly. Past research has focused on the expansion of disciplinary boundaries to better capture the implications of the specific operational and organizational work context of emergency services workers. The present research detailed in this special issue has explored the impact of new management models and/or organizational support structures for managing different types of emergency services workers. However, there remains gaps in achieving the triple aims of achieving high employee wellbeing and performance, and community wellbeing. Consequently, new research is required to address these gaps.
