Abstract

I never imagined my career would end when and how it did. I still had so much to offer, so much I wanted to achieve and so much motivation to reach my goals. Unfortunately, the toll on my physical and mental health was relentless, and I knew I had to leave. It was time to begin my healing journey from bullying and the associated trauma. Seven years later, I know I made the right decision. It wasn’t easy, and it took a long time to come to terms with the premature ending of my almost 30-year academic career. It wasn’t just a job. It was part of me. I loved my career as a mental health nurse and consider it a privilege to be a passionate advocate for mental health nursing. I worked hard and achieved success according to all academic standards. Some might see that as a protective factor for bullying. Unfortunately, it was not.
