Abstract
Introduction: a critical conversation
This point of departure opens a process that we hope will encourage a breadth of submissions to a special issue of Teaching in Higher Education, entitled Relational pedagogies in an age of GenAI. The theme of the issue will evolve and entangle around the overlapping concepts of relationality and relational pedagogies for understanding a contemporary, digitalised, and AI-mediated, world. This is a theme that we – three teachers and researchers working in higher education – believe is both important and timely. Our aim is for the conversation we embark upon here to unfold and develop, and for readers of the journal to engage with these ideas by responding to and critiquing them, through submissions to the special issue. We believe that this discussion will be of value for teachers in higher education as we seek to navigate the complexity of our current times, and as we continue to develop our theory-practice.
