Behavioral problems are a common complaint in equine practice, particularly in sport horses. This review aims to discuss ‘behavioral problems’ as a possible manifestation of pain, with specific reference to equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS). The article includes a discussion of the range of differential diagnoses that warrant consideration and the authors’ clinical approach to the diagnostic evaluation of pain-based behavior as a problem
