Abstract
This thesis examined the purpose of business education in Australia across four interconnected research projects. The results of these articles show that business schools in Australia attempt to comprehensively manage the needs of multiple constituencies such as government, university management, international accreditation, academia, employers and students with a diminishing amount of resources. The implication is that the future is uncertain for some public business schools and may result in market consolidation. The conclusion can be drawn that business schools in Australia need to differentiate to facilitate the types of public value expected by their manifold publics.
