Abstract
This thesis encompassed two experiments. The first was a cross sectional examination of bone mineral density (BMD) and muscular strength in relation to age and the effect of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The second was a longitudinal training study examining the effect of short term high intensity resistance training on BMD, muscular strength and calcium turnover in women between the ages of 45 and 65 years and the influence of HRT.
