This thesis is grounded in creative arts practice, in particular, in creative writing and storytelling. My choice of creative arts practice as a methodology is consistent with my desire to not only theoretically discuss creativity in relation to abuse, community resilience, and social responsibility, but to demonstrate the efficacy of art, presented here in the form of the novel, Watermarks and in the reflection on how creative practices, in particular oral storytelling, contribute to lasting social change as shown in the Exegesis, The Story of Rose Bower.
