Abstract
This thesis examines stakeholders’ perceptions of the impacts of golf course development on two communities in Central Thailand. The communities examined (i) Thammasala, near Nikanti Golf Club and (ii) Bang Khaem/ Wang Yen, near Uniland Golf Club. Significant employment opportunities have been created, particularly for caddies, through the golf course developments leading to increased business. This has resulted in family reunification through community employment. However, farmers have suffered land loss and residents were given no input into the development of the projects. Community stakeholders, government and developers need to discuss projects to devise strategies that will assist the community to adjust to the economic, socio-cultural and environmental impacts that flow through such developments.
