Abstract
Why are almost half of the over 65’s within Australia (45%) not using information communication technology (ICT) (ABS 2018)? Analysis of 255 surveys revealed older Australians are not utilising ICT to its full capacity and are missing many opportunities that could enhance their quality of life. Results found key impediments to ICT use among older Australians are fear of the technology, lack of self-confidence, lack of skills, and not understanding the benefits of ICT. Outcomes suggest a streamlining of the supply chain between communication network providers, internet service providers and technology retail outlets is needed, along with a more forward thinking approach to digital learning and delivery by collaborators to reduce these barriers.
