Within the private higher education (PHEI) sector in Malaysia, the increasing work pressures on the academic workforce is constraining their ability to maintain a healthy work life balance (WLB). Evidence reveals the limited presence of appropriate human resource management (HRM) interventions and “family friendly” legislative provisions in Malaysia. Accordingly, this research investigated the WLB issues of faculty members, and the role of the HRM function to effectively address such issues. The research adopted a mixed methodology, using a qualitative approach for exploratory purposes, followed by a quantitative approach that permitted the generalization of findings on WLB issues in Malaysia.
