Due to the dramatic changes in the global telecommunications industry, Malaysian telecommunications firms have to venture into foreign markets for sustainable growth. This research investigated the critical issues that impact on their successful international market penetration. The findings revealed that the key success factors are effective leadership, a strategic global outlook, adequate financial and knowledge resources as well as participation in strong external business networks. The findings also contributed to new theory development, a refined model for successful international market penetration. It also offered recommendations for policy and supportive corporate practices and suggested areas for further follow up research.
