Reflections on adopting a learning management system to engage students in their learning

This paper presents reflections on the gradual adoption of a range of tools available in a Learning Management System (LMS) for accounting education. It follows the process involved in the gradual adoption of the tools provided by the system as part of my approach to trying to encourage students to be responsible for their learning rather than relying on approaches based on the need for me to teach them. The reflections highlight how the use of a LMS to engage students in their learning and to actively share and explore the ideas, experiences and views of the whole student cohort can encourage the development of important skills required of professionals such as decision making, problem solving and self-management. Recognising the need to develop these skills is one thing, but being able to incorporate that development into an online delivery mode is another. This paper shares my experience in this process.
