The development of Australian professional teacher standards in EE: our journey and beyond

Since the early 1990s Australian professional teaching associations in collaboration with education departments and universities have led the development and implementation of teacher standards with and for the Australian teaching profession. The Australian Association for Environmental Education and Monash University recently completed a pilot project that developed draft professional teacher standards in environmental education with and for accomplished Australian primary (elementary) and secondary teachers. This paper presentation outlines the draft professional teacher standards developed with and for Australian teachers, revealing the methodological successes, challenges/tensions and opportunities. The presentation will be highly interactive where the audience will be invited to engage in a research-practice experience, just as the pilot participants experienced.
