Abstract
In the last few years, there has been renewed interest in integrated assessment in the ELICOS sector; that is, an assessment task or suite of tasks which combine macro skills rather than assessing them separately.
University English Colleges of Australia (UECA), a national member organisation providing support in the areas of research, Professional Development and industry relations, noted through discussions at its Assessment Symposia and Benchmarking project workshops that integrated assessments was emerging as a particular area of interest. This led to the UECA Grant Opportunity to Fund Cross institutional Projects in the Area of Integrated Assessment in 2022 to further our understanding and to support members’ capacity to deliver quality integrated assessments.
In line with UECA’s collaborative ethos, it was a requirement that projects should be conducted cross-institutionally and should have outputs which would benefit the wider UECA membership. Four successful projects involving nine UECA members were accepted, and these are currently underway with a view to publishing the outcomes in a special edition of the English Australia Journal in 2024.
This presentation will overview the grant project as a whole and summarise each of the four projects and expected outputs. The session will be of particular interest to conference participants who are looking to better understand integrated assessment, its affordances and constraints, and to stay up to-date with developments in integrated assessment in the Australian ELICOS sector. The session will also explore the benefits of a cross-institutional, collaborative approach to the professional development of ELICOS staff.
