With the introduction of the Engineering Skills 2024 syllabus, there is increasing demand for high-quality, industry-aligned resources that can support teaching and learning in secondary schools across Queensland. This workshop aims to introduce newly developed resources designed to support the delivery of Units A (Fitting and Machining) and B (Welding and Fabrication), and to strengthen student pathways into manufacturing and engineering careers.
The resource development process will be discussed, including the collaborative approach undertaken through working groups and workshops including teachers, trainers and industry representatives. Sample resources developed for Units A and B–lesson plans, teaching resources, work experience framework, and mapping–will then be presented.
Participants will have the opportunity to review and provide feedback on draft resources, with a particular focus on their alignment with the Engineering Skills 2024 syllabus as well as units within the Certificate II in Engineering Pathways (MEM20422). This session invites teachers to critically evaluate the materials and share insights based on their classroom experience, ensuring the resources are suitable for diverse school contexts and varying levels of teacher expertise.
The final component of the workshop will involve a collaborative review of the remaining four units of the Engineering Skills 2024 syllabus. Participants will work in groups to identify priorities for future resource development and generate ideas for learning materials and projects. The session will also invite teachers to express interest in joining future working groups that contribute to the development of resources.
This workshop is designed for school teachers with varying levels of expertise in engineering, design, and technology education. By participating, teachers will have the opportunity to directly influence the development of high-quality, practical resources that aim to support students pursuing careers in manufacturing and related fields.
