Alison's presentation draws from thirty-one mothers' mental patient files, including a family member, from one mental institution in Melbourne, Australia from the interwar years: 1920 to 1936. Alison uses feminist, historical approaches in her research to investigate the relationship between gender, motherhood, and mental disorder in the early twentieth century, Australian context.
