Abstract
Epidemic forecasting models have advanced rapidly, offering increasingly accurate and timely predictions of disease outbreaks. However, the gap between generating these forecasts and translating them into effective public health action remains a critical challenge. Too often, forecasts are produced in isolation from the systems and decision-making processes they are intended to inform, leading to underutilized insights and delayed or misaligned responses.

This talk addresses the pressing need for a structured decision-making framework that bridges the gap between epidemic forecasts and actionable interventions. Drawing on real-world experiences from dengue early warning systems in Vietnam and beyond, I highlight the limitations of current approaches, where forecasts are often disconnected from resource allocation, policy prioritization, and operational planning. The absence of clear decision rules, institutional mandates, and communication protocols hampers timely response—especially in resource-constrained settings.
