Abstract

Physical education and development curriculum and pedagogy Multicultural education (excl. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Māori and Pacific Peoples) Primary education Professional education and training
The conference presentation began with an overview of the New Colombo Plan, which supports international experiences for Australian students, and focused on a key initiative aimed at developing cultural competency in Teacher Education students through a four-week teaching practicum in Fiji. The program emphasised immersive, context-based learning, allowing pre-service teachers to engage meaningfully with local communities and educational systems. This initiative fostered positive partnerships between Australian and Fijian university institutions. Central to this collaboration was the co-development of culturally responsive Health and Physical Education (HPE) curriculum materials, supporting both teacher training and sustainable education outcomes in the region.
