Abstract
Many strongly endorsed vitalism and considered it closely linked to innate intelligence. Some were not familiar with vitalism. Findings were used to inform Phases II and III. Conclusions • This thinking and practice, intended to remove interferences to nervous system control and integration of optimal body function, combined with promotion of healthy lifestyles, could make a valuable contribution to addressing global pandemics of lifestyle-related non-communicable conditions Organised energy is manifest in the inherent self-organising, self-maintaining, and self-healing abilities of living organisms Timeless metaphysical understandings of the unity of intelligence and matter, which creates life, health and empowers the individual • Of essential importance to the identity of chiropractic as a distinct profession which can offer a unique and valuable contribution to health and wellness • Life force exists as an intelligent fundamental ontological force in the universe • A guide on which to base decision-making in all areas of life Phase I Themes Phases II & III: Online survey of members of CAA* and of NZCA** Quantitative closed-ended questions (62) Qualitative open-ended questions (25) Research questions: What do chiropractors mean when they speak about vitalism? What value do chiropractors believe that chiropractic thinking and practices based on vitalism might offer in addressing current global pandemics of lifestyle-related non-communicable conditions?
