On Wednesday October 7 1924 a quite remarkable experiment was begun by the NSW Department of Education. This date marked the beginning of electronic communication for education in Australia. This paper documents the introduction of wireless into Australia and its championing by enthusiastic individuals as well as the broader teaching profession keen to adopt the most modern methods. It finds that this early experiment in school broadcasts fulfilled a valuable role as well as providing distinctive opportunities for music.
