Abstract
Wreck Divers and Archaeologists: A History of Maritime Archaeology in California recounts the development of maritime archaeology in California. It is anchored to the story of the Frolic shipwreck, a Baltimore-built clipper that wrecked on the northern Californian coast in 1850. The book has a logical flow beginning with a history of maritime archaeology, followed by personal narratives by divers, archaeologists, a Native American and a museum curator, each connected to Frolic.
