This chapter introduces the International Handbook on Education in Southeast Asia. It overviews the 11 national education systems featured in the handbook. The chapter documents the extent of diversity in educational provision across the region. It also records the extent to which there is a shared commitment to the value of educational provision, even in the face of economic, social, and geographic challenges.
