Abstract
Chapter overview Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is defined as the involuntary loss of urine on effort or physical exertion, or on sneezing or coughing. This can occur anytime during the childbearing journey, although it is more prevalent in the last trimester. For midwives to support women who experience SUI, it is imperative they are aware of the possible reasons it occurs, what treatments might be offered and how SUI can impact a woman's quality of life. These aspects are explored within this chapter with the aim of facilitating the midwife to provide information when engaging in a shared decision-making approach with women.
