Abstract
This chapter provides an examination of the Sri Lankan tourism industry's experience with managing disasters (including the 2004 tsunami, and the civil war) as well as an assessment of the industry's current resilience and therefore sustainability. The assessment of the industry's resilience is undertaken in the context of the government's disaster planning and management and subsequent strategies as well as its responses to human rights, climate change and the very rapid growth being experienced by the industry.
