Abstract
This chapter presents findings from the 'Beyond Safety: Ethical Practice Involving Children' project with children, young people, and staff in residential care. It identifies practices enhancing safety, well-being, and ethical relationship-based support. Interviews with 13 young people (12-18) and nine residential care workers reveal the importance of recognition: of feeling like you are loved, respected, and valued. Child-centered cultures, leadership, reflexivity, and supervision support workers, while external decision-making and restrictions can hinder meeting young people's needs. The chapter highlights the implications and challenges of enhancing social support in residential care.
