Abstract
The Northern Quoll is the largest mammal species in the world to undergo male die-off after mating. Most females only survive one breeding season. This short lifespan makes the species extremely vulnerable to extinction. At the time of European settlement, this species was distributed across northern Australia from the Pilbara, Western Australia, to southern Queensland but has now contracted to several distinct populations. This chapter includes size, identification, First Nations names, conservation status and a summary of this species diet, denning behaviour, spatial organisation, reproduction, causes of mortality and conservation actions required to ameliorate the impacts of threatening processes.
