Abstract
Drawing on research conducted in the eastern Australian tourist destination of Byron Bay, New South Wales, this chapter explores how young people cope with the pressures of tourism activity in their community. Findings revealed a range of key issues for young people, including negotiating belonging in an increasingly sought-after place both to visit and to live, as well as the ways in which young people assert their agency and voice in coping with tourism. As such, the study unpacks the notion of overtourism as seen and understood by younger residents in a coastal tourist destination in Australia.
