Abstract
Interpretation has been a central activity in studies of multimodality since the 1990s as an operation of description, analysis and explanation of multimodal texts and interactions. This entry provides an overview of different approaches to interpretation in multimodality studies, as well as mentions challenges to them - such as non-humancentricity, interpretosis and the separation of science and ethics - that arise from some emerging philosophies and their approaches in the post-qualitative research space.
