Abstract

Most professionals agree that autism is a lifelong condition, but abilities, associated problems, functioning, and management needs can change over time. Thus, while identification and accurate diagnosis constitute a first step, ongoing monitoring is essential to help individuals with autism to reach their potential and manage developmental challenges and transitional periods that arise throughout their lives. This chapter will highlight the key issues in the process of monitoring, including current opportunities and potential pitfalls.
