Abstract
Despite the increased research efforts on networks and network management, a ‘knowing-doing’ or research-practice gap remains. Genuinely engaging practitioners in the research process has been shown to improve their use of research findings and research itself, leading to calls for more active involvement of practitioners in network research. Yet, their vital role in network practice and their potential contribution to creating, translating, and transferring network research, such involvement has not been adequately explored to understand when and how to nurture and leverage practitioner-researcher partnerships. Bridging this network practice-research or ‘knowing-doing’ gap is an issue this volume has championed through the deliberate involvement of network practitioners as chapter reviewers, authors, and expert contributors. This chapter draws from their feedback, comments, and reflections to learn how they engage with network research and their views on making it more valuable, thus increasing its application in the real world.
