Abstract
This final chapter provides a review of some of the key issues and concerns raised in the case studies and associated discussion, and notes the various responses in terms of policy, planning and research that government (at all levels), planners and academics have sought to adopt with respect to tourism development. It also notes potential mechanisms by which tourism planning and policy-making could be improved in terms of integrating tourism with other regional development strategies and the goals of sustainable development. The chapter concludes by examining likely issues that will emerge in tourism planning and policy in Australia and New Zealand as we head towards the end of the century and beyond.
