Abstract
Equations of state (EOSs) are widely used in the oil and gas industry to predict the phase behavior of petroleum fluids. An EOS of a substance usually refers to an expression that describes the relationship between pressure, temperature, and volume. Originally, EOSs were developed for pure components, but they can be used for a given mixture by employing the mixing rules. The first EOS that predicts vapor–liquid coexistence is Van der Waals EOS. Many authors attempt to revise and modify the Van der Waals EOS; these modified equations are known as cubic EOSs. Another type of EOS which is called noncubic EOS, is presented by the authors. The cubic and noncubic EOSs and mixing rules will be discussed in this chapter.
