Abstract

Health-related quality of life Older people Predictive ability Quality of life Survival
Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is a multidimensional concept that includes physical, mental, and social aspects of well-being, particularly as they relate to health conditions and treatments. HRQoL itself cannot be directly measured; instead, it is inferred through observable domains or dimensions that reflect various aspects of health and well-being. This indirect approach highlights the complexity of accurately assessing HRQoL. Greater HRQoL has been found to be an important prognostic indicator in predicting lower hospitalization and greater survival among general people. Integrating HRQoL measure into the health system can inform medical treatment decision-making and help clinicians in assessing patients' overall health status beyond traditional clinical measures, facilitating early intervention and the development of personalized care strategies. Health systems should prioritize programs aimed at improving HRQoL as part of broader public health initiatives, recognizing the impact of well-being on long-term survival.
