Abstract
This chapter examines the evolution of climate change law and policy in Australia. In particular, the focus of this chapter is on historical development of the climate regime in Australia. Key developments and mechanisms related to climate change mitigation are reviewed, including greenhouse gas reporting arrangements, renewable energy policy and other regulations aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Emissions Reduction Fund and other mechanisms, which are central to Australia’s current climate policy, are also critically reviewed.
