Abstract
The sailboard was first patented in 1968. Boardsailing or windsurfing received formal international
recognition when it was accepted as an Olympic sport in 1984. It has now grown to enormous popularity as
a water-sport and the design of equipment for the sport has attracted specialist attention. This applies not
only to the boards and rigs (comprised of sail, mast and boom) but also to the equipment designed for the
boardsailor.
