The report focuses on graduation from Year 12. Data from the Youth in Transition Project (ACER) national samples of persons completing Year 12 during the 1980s is analysed to trace the sources of the growth in Year 12 graduation rates through various sectors of the population. Comments are made on the importance of several aspects of families and schooling in contributing to this growth, and issues of equity and talent wastage in this context.
