Based on responses from more than 30,000 undergraduate university students, this report documents the scale of financial problems encountered by students across Australia. The authors identify three consistent correlates of student financial difficulty: a lower likelihood of having paid the Higher Education Contributions Scheme (HECS) charge up-front; a greater likelihood of having a budget deficit; and a greater likelihood of having to borrow money to continue studies.
