Abstract

Introduction: The Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach is a goal-oriented, individualised intervention that targets occupational performance. CO-OP emergedas a function-focused intervention for children with motor coordination challenges but thereis now evidence that CO-OP yields positive results in a wide range of paediatric and adultpopulations. In keeping with the partnership principles of Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiritiand tino rangatiratanga, self-determination and autonomy have cross-cultural importance, including in therapeutic approaches and relationships. The CO-OP approach uses a cognitiveapproach to achieve client-set goals and involves partnering with clients to actively problemsolve and discover their own strategies to successfully carry out meaningful tasks in theirdaily lives. Methods: This interactive workshop will combine presentation, case study discussions, video and smallgroup activities. Questions and discussion throughout will maximise the learning of delegatesin this fun, interactive session. Learning Objectives: This interactive workshop will enable delegates to Identify the key principles of CO-OP, Identify the prerequisites for participation in CO-OP, Apply CO-OP strategies within a small group context, Identify clients most likely to respond to CO-OP.CO-OP.
