Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of mortality worldwide with coronary artery bypass graft surgery the most viable treatment for many patients. In the immediate postoperative period, clinical practice guidelines recommend that patients attend inpatient, or Phase 1, cardiac rehabilitation (CR) such as early immobilisation, breathing exercises and wound care education to improve functional health outcomes. This is followed by longer-term rehabilitation after hospital discharge. How patients and healthcare professionals currently engage in Phase 1 CR is not well understood.
